I agree startups need to take a structured approach to hiring, because as well as avoiding 'toxic' hires, without such a careful approach it's all too easy to miss valuable candidates who don't easily fit the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/No-Startup-Hipsters-Technology-Companies-ebook/dp/B00JX2GCMQ" rel="nofollow">stereotypical hipster profile!</a>
